The Kia K5 vs. the Kia Optima – Get Excited About Sedans

Optima fans, there is no need to be sad that your Kia Optima is no longer being manufactured. For those who haven’t heard, the Kia K5 is the new replacement for the Optima in the mid-size sedan category. All the things you loved about the Optima haven’t disappeared. They are just wrapped in a new package.

Sleek and Sporty Style

The 2020 Kia Optima exuded sporty attitude with the sloped roof and sharp angles that contrasted sculpted curves. A low, wide profile highlighted the muscular image of this sedan. However, the 2021 Kia K5 takes the sporty design up a notch with a sloping hood and an aggressive front fascia that exudes confidence. Fluid lines create a sophisticated coupe-like attitude that is sure to make you take a second look.

Premium Performance

With that sporty look, you want to see athletic performance in your sedan. You won’t be disappointed in this area for the 2021 Kia K5. While the Optima provided two engines with a focus on either efficiency or performance, the K5 also comes with two engines. Both are paired with the quick-shift eight-speed dual clutch transmission. Upgrade from the standard engine to the 2.5L turbo for the GT to get 290 horsepower and 311 lb.-ft of torque for best-in-class. This is a step up from the 2.0T of the Optima at 245 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft of torque. A major change for the K5 is the addition of all-wheel drive to better handle all kinds of road conditions and for more spirited driving.

Today’s Technology

With technology continuing to advance at a rapid pace, you shouldn’t be surprised to know the 2021 Kia K5 takes tech to a new level. Even though the Kia Optima offered some pretty impressive tech features, the new model is continuing to move forward with the latest in available systems. Both models provide for easy pairing of the smartphone with Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. However, the K5’s 10.25-inch touchscreen is larger and more impressive than the eight-inch version on the Optima. Both models include wireless charging and include superior audio systems as upgrades. For the Optima, it is the Harman/Kardon audio system while the K5 provides entertainment with Bose.

Exceptional Safety

Drivers will feel safe in either the Kia Optima or the 2021 Kia K5 with advanced systems partnering with you for a more secure ride. The Optima offered auto emergency braking and blind sport detection as well as driver attention warning that provided an alert if the driver became distracted or fatigued. Feel confident behind the wheel of the K5 with lane keeping and lane following assist as well as safe exit assist to let you know when it’s safe to get out of the vehicle around passing traffic. Parking distance warning lets you know if you’re getting too close to an obstacle as you park or back up.

Kia continues to set the standard for sedans, and the 2021 Kia K5 exceeds expectations. While you may be sad to see the Optima go, you’re sure to be excited about what the K5 can do for your driving experience. Get a firsthand look with a test drive at Bob Moore Kia.
